All students enjoyed playing, learning about, and composing with the Boomwhackers this week! Using matching color tiles, groups of students composed their own songs and then performed them on Boomwhackers for the class. They did a great job! Below are some pictures of classes at DeRenne enjoying them!
It's a new year full of new things in music! Beginning in January and throughout the rest of the school year, we are moving and grooving to our dance unit. Last week 1st-3rd grades learned the Sid Shuffle , and 4th and 5th grades learned the Cupid Shuffle. **Just so you know...I like to take opportunities like dancing units to show students how to have fun dancing, yet remain appropriate. Beginning in February, 4th and 5th grades will begin a recorder unit. The goals of the unit are: 1. to learn breath control, 2. to improve hand/eye coordination, 3. to gain understanding of the beat of a song, 4. to experience playing with a group, and 5. to have an opportunity to apply the knowledge of music they have been exposed to during elementary school. If your student does not have a recorder, please let me know. Recorders will remain in the music classroom for the rest of the unit, and possible the year. They will not be taken back and forth from school. (As a parent of 4 kids, I know how easily it is to lose or forget things.) If parents or students wish to buy an additional recorder to have at home for practice, they may do that on their own. As always, if parents or students have questions, please email me at [email protected] Thank you for your support!! Mrs. Ayers |
