We are so excited to announce that beginning the week of October 13, ASAP music lessons will be adding piano! The space is extremely limited, so please respond quickly and be understanding if the few slots fill up fast! Guitar and voice will still be offered as well!
We have just finished learning about our first local musician through the Savannah Music Festival's Musical Explorers Curriculum! From the home town of Darien, Georgia, Brenton and Freddie from the McIntosh County Shouters were our first local talent!
Students of all grades learned the terms: ring shout, call and response, steady beat, rhythmic pattern, ancestors, and our favorite--Stick Man! You'll have to ask your students about who Stickman is! Enjoy listening to Kneebone Bend and Move Daniel! Just go to this page and click on the CD icon for each song. Next up, Jimmy from Bluffton, South Carolina, singing Bluegrass!! Can't wait! Dear Second Grade SCPS Parents,
I am thrilled to announce that our school was chosen to participate in the Musical Explorers Music Curriculum which was created by the Savannah Music Festival in conjunction with Carnegie Hall in New York City! It is designed to teach students the elements of music that all curriculums teach, but this one will showcase local musicians from Richmond Hill, Pooler, Bluffton, S.C., Tybee Island, and Darien. Each semester will conclude with a special concert , at the Lucas Theater, in which those local musicians will perform. That’s right, two fieldtrips! These concerts will be excellent opportunities for our students to put on display their SCPS manners and great behaviors for all of Savannah to see! Since these concerts are deemed a reward for hard work and great behavior, any students who do not show that they can conduct themselves in the way that is expected of them, will not be permitted to attend the concerts. To view the curriculum or listen to the music, you may go to savannahmusicfestival.org/musicalexplorers If you have any questions, you are welcome to contact me at [email protected]. We begin learning about our first local musicians from Darien, Georgia, next week! Blessings to each of you, Audrey Ayers |
